Week 1 of the TerraFit Challenge

Yesterday was my first day.  I only prepped two lunches for myself Sunday.  It will take a little while to get used to doing that and be able to do it for a week.  It’s a learning curve.  I did buy plenty of snacks though and portioned them out so I don’t have to do that for the rest of the week.

For breakfast I always have my protein shake so that hasn’t changed at all.

For Monday and Tuesday I did Chicken Fajitas.

  • 4 chicken breast tenders
  • Williams Sonoma Fajita Rub
  • Pam (light spray)
  • 2 small onions
  • 2 small bell peppers
  • 1/4 c. Fat Free Mexi Cheese
  • 1 Tbsp. Plain Greek Yogurt

I just grilled them on a grill pan on my stove.  It didn’t take long and they were full of flavor!

The snacks I’ve chosen are bananas, almonds, apples, Babybel Cheese and Snap Crisps (baked sugar snap peas).

Wednesday and Thursday Broccoli Chicken Pasta

  • 4 Chicken Breast Tenders
  • 1 Package of Frozen Broccoli
  • 1 c. of Whole Wheat Rotinni
  • 1 small Onion
  • Parmesan
  • Paprika
  • Red Pepper Flakes
  • Garlic Powder
  • Black Pepper

Cook the pasta and put in a large bowl.

I grilled the chicken, onion and broccoli on a griddle pan with some coconut oil spray and black pepper and garlic powder to taste.

Once it was done I put it on top of the pasta and sprinkled it with paprika and Parmesan.

These recipes are so simple but it have a lot of flavor.  For me that is very important.  I get bored easily with bland food.  It makes it easier for me to “fall off the wagon” if my food isn’t interesting and full of flavor.  I’ve also found that eating spicy food has helped me with my water intake!  haha!  I have read that spices like cayenne and red pepper flakes do aid in weight loss though

I did buy some tilapia and that was supper for two nights.  Another night I had a small steak with steamed veggies.  When I’ve been at a loss on what to eat for supper or time is getting away from me I’ve made a protein shake.

The Terrafit workouts are pretty hard but I feel amazing afterward!  I’m still doing Yoga and Zumba at the Y.  This week I have been sore, non-stop.  I’ve had some issues with aching joints but hopefully that will pass soon.

It’s been a hard week but I’m already starting to see changes so I’m okay with it.  Making sure I eat at the right times, planning ahead and working out like an insane person is rough but I know it will be worth it.  Eating clean is challenging sometimes but I can definitely tell a difference in the way it makes me feel.

Weight Loss:

  • 4lbs

Am I happy with my weight loss?

  • Yes.  I was a actually shooting for 5-6lbs but I’ll take it!  I think for my first week I’ve done pretty well!

How do I feel physically?

  • I feel pretty good.  Saturday I had a little bit of a hiccup because my joints were really sore (feet, ankles, knees, elbows & wrists mainly) and I was just having trouble dealing with it.  I noticed when I worked out Saturday morning that I was stiff but by Saturday evening I was really hurting.  If I would sit down and then get back up it was really hard.  I took a hot bath with epsom salt and green tea.  That seemed to help quite a bit.  Sunday I was still sore but it was more manageable by the evening (thank God Sundays are my rest day!) and this morning so far I’m not too bad.

What has been the hardest thing so far?

  • Meal planning and prep.  It takes time and I have to really be on top of it.

What will I do differently this week?

  • First and foremost I will really put the water away on my rest day.  I drank the minimum required for water on Sunday but I’ve been doing more than required the rest of the week.  I’m guessing where I was resting I just didn’t feel like I needed it.  I really think it would have helped my weight loss though.  I will also keep track of everything via Fitness Pal this week to see if that helps any.  I’ve been writing everything in my fitness and exercise journal and I will continue that (it helps keep me focused).  I mostly want to see how many calories and carbs as well as how much sodium I’m taking in each day.  I think that may help me too.

How do I feel about the program at this point?

  • I like it.  It is good that you have a team who help cheer you on even when you feel like you aren’t doing too well or you just don’t feel like doing what you need to do.  I worry though about letting my team down.  They won the last Terrafit Challenge overall (nationwide) and that’s a lot of pressure.  I don’t want to be the one to knock them out of anything.

TerraFit 90 Day Challenge

Some of the girls at the Y are in a weight loss challenge called the TerraFit 90 Day Challenge.  They asked if I wanted in on it and explained what goes on.  It’s kind of like a cross between The Biggest Loser and a Diet Bet.  I’m not sure if you’re familiar with Diet Bet but a few of the bloggers that I follow have had Diet Bet Challenges in the past.  I’ve never participated but they look like they work.

With the TerraFit Challenge you pay $25 to join your team.  They give you a list of “good” foods and “bad” foods, workout schedule, supplement suggestions, workout DVDs to buy, etc.  Basically it is everything you need to accomplish your weight loss goals.  Every day before 9pm you log in to their site and log what you’ve eaten and if you’ve exercised.  Every Monday you weigh in.  You also take before pictures to compare with your after pictures when the challenge is finished.  For the top losing teams there are cash prizes (those prizes depend upon the number of participants nationwide) and there are individual prizes, team prizes and best before and after picture prizes.

My personal goal for this challenge is 3olbs.  I think that’s a pretty tall order but I also think I can do it.

Working out isn’t a problem for me.  I enjoy it so much.  My diet is what is going to be rough.  I know I’m going to have to really plan ahead and really stay on top of it.  I’m trying to find meal prep ideas online.  There’s a lot of information so it takes a while to sift through it all.

Meal planning for me is always a challenge.  I’ve tried it before and I can’t ever seem to get in a good routine with it.  It’s always hard to do my meal and then do Rylan’s and Jason’s meals too.  Now that I’ve signed up to do the challenge there isn’t any whining or excuses though.  I have made a commitment and other people’s success (prizes) can be affected by my commitment.

There’s no turning back.

Camping

Christina and I had a girls camping trip this weekend.20150802_111807We had started to camp near the river but there were a lot of people there so we drove to Hidden Valley Lake instead.

My fire pit prep.  Not bad if I do say so myself.

I have no clue why, but I didn’t get any pictures of the supper I made for us.  Well, here’s what we had anyway:  Chili Cheese Fries (everyone laughed that we had an appetizer!), Hamburger Steak Hobo Meal with onions, green pepper and carrots, new potatoes, corn on the cob.  For dessert we did s’mores, because what is camping without s’mores?  Anyway, it was all good and we were so full afterward.

The Husband’s Man Cave/Studio

Last week was crazy, it was busy and we had a death in the family on top of that.  Jason had ordered a building to use at home as a man cave/studio and it was delivered Thursday afternoon.  We had to do a little bit of prep for the site though.

This was my “office” Thursday.  We had blocks that needed to be moved, trees to cut and move and brush to cut and push.

They delivered the building at 4pm.  I think it looks really nice nestled in the woods.20150801_134436

We’ll be finishing the inside with sheetrock.  We’ll also add heat and wiring.  Under the window he wants to put a desk, the loft will be used for RC plane storage and the larger part of the room will be used to build things.20150801_135035

Thoughtful Thursday: Loving My Body, Flaws and All

I’ve been in a love/hate relationship with my body for years now.

I’m learning to love it though.  One step at a time.

And do you know what I’ve noticed has happened since I’ve started appreciating my body and acknowledging all the amazing things it has done?

I’ve started taking better care of it.

I’ve been working out more, loving the changes, ever how small they may be.

I’ve been looking at the good things I see in the mirror instead of the flaws.

I’ve been watching what I eat and drinking more water to fuel my body properly.

You see, I don’t want to have a love/hate relationship with my body.  No one is perfect and that’s okay.  That doesn’t mean I don’t want to be the best me I can be, though.  I’m going to continue to work hard and quite beating myself up and nitpicking what I see in the mirror.

Thoughtful Thursday: Letting Go

In my last yoga session we set an intention of letting go.  Letting go of things in our past, or wrongs we’ve felt like were done to us…anything we needed to let go of.

Sometimes in life you have to draw that line in the sand and say:

This will not hurt me anymore.

This will not take any more of my life.

This will not have power over me.

Letting go is really about taking your power back from a situation.  Once you do, you realize just how heavy that burden has been to carry.

Shopping with My Two Favorite Guys

We left work Friday and went to Knoxville for the night.  We had some shopping we needed to do Saturday and it’s always nice to have a night away from home.

20150717_220102  We have talked about bunk beds for Rylan’s room for a while now and decided to start shopping for them.  We lucked out when we went to Ashley Home Furnishings and found the exact ones we wanted for such a great price!  We were able to get the beds and mattresses cheaper than anywhere we had found just the beds for!  I was also happy because these are detachable which will give us more options with them.

We have to go down in a couple of weeks to pick them up.  I’m looking at bedding trying to decide on what to get.  I want something that will be durable and last through interest changes.  I found some bedding from Pottery Barn Kids that I’m seriously considering.

So far that’s what I’m thinking.  That may change though.  I still need to go to Pottery Barn and see it in person.

I’m excited to get it all finished and see what Rylan thinks of it!

We had some other shopping to do.  While Daddy was in the Hobby Store (or the Man-Child Store as I like to think of it! 😉 ) Rylan and I stayed in the car and made each other laugh until it hurt!

I bought a few nice shirts and of course loaded up on clothes for Rylan…’cause you know he needs ’em y’all!  😉  Haha!

It’s always so much easier to find things for him than for me.  I was disappointed in Belk at Turkey Creek though.  They had no Under Armor stuff in 2T or 3T.  I would like to have had some t-shirts and polo shirts for him.  Under Armor is pricey but it is so tough compared to most everything else.  He’s very rough on stuff and I need it to last more than a couple of wears.  I’ll be going to a different Belk today so maybe they’ll have some stuff.
