This year has been so full of changes, joy, adventure and love. Sure we’ve had some trying times as well but overwhelmingly this year has been such a blessing. We are blessed to have wonderful family and friends in our lives. I can’t wait to see what 2014 has in store for us!
A few things I’ve learned:
- Becoming a Mother is the best, most rewarding, hardest, selfless thing I could have ever done and I’m so glad I did! The love that I have for my child is the most intense emotion I’ve ever felt.
- I can’t believe how much I love my husband after having our son.
- Inspiration can come from anywhere.
- I’m stronger than I ever thought.
- I’m way tougher too.
- There are some people who just want to argue and cause trouble…love them anyway, at a distance if it’s extreme and never let their craziness dictate your mood/day/life. What they are doing isn’t about you at all, it’s 100% them.
- There are still a lot of beautiful, giving, loving wonderful people in this world. I know there is a lot of bad/mean spirited/evil people out there and they seem to get on the news all the time but there are so many out there that do such good things that we never see. It’s easy to get in that rut of thinking that the world and everyone in it is so bad but if you look around it isn’t nearly as bad as you think.
I don’t do “New Year’s Resolutions” but here are some goals for 2014:
- To keep working hard and keep having fun!
- Enjoy every minute I can with family
- To not take anything for granted because every second is a precious gift
- Keep running 5ks
- Get back in good riding shape and do a little showing
- Keep the attitude that if today was bad, tomorrow is new day, a new start and it will get better
Just a few fun pictures!

*This run was on November 9, 2013 in Clintwood, VA.
So a little more than a month before the actual run myself, my husband and one of our friends decided to do a Color Run. It was in support of Alpha-1 research. My friend Christina had been training and my husband regularly runs on the treadmill. They did GREAT!!! Christina beat both of us though…she kicked butt! I think this was her 3rd 5k so she knew what to expect and went out there and got it done. The Husband beat me too! I was very proud of both of them! I hadn’t worked out at all. I had my son 4 months prior and I’ve been (understandably) preoccupied. I’m just now getting to where I feel like I can juggle it all and add working out.
Anyway, it was just for fun so I thought, what the heck? Who cares about my time? I had a blast and I think the Husband and Christina did as well!
I learned 3 things:
- I did better than I thought I would.
- I didn’t do great AT ALL!
- I wanna do it again…and again…and again!
I have to tell y’all though…it was HARD. But that’s why I liked it. I liked the challenge. I liked the fact that it was hard and that I doubted myself but I pushed through and made it happen. Was it pretty? No. But I DID IT. I put my mind to it and proved I could do it. Now I’m excited at the prospect of what I can do with training. I’m excited to see how far I can push my body and my mind.
The first major hill was huge and it was long. I really thought I would never get up that hill. My lungs burned and my ears rang. I could feel my finger trips throb. There was an ambulance in the back that played “Eye of the Tiger” all the way up that hill. It seriously took me, oh I’d say 4 “Eye of the Tiger”s to get up that hill but when I crested that hill I knew I could finish. I just knew it. I kept pushing. Yes, I jogged but I also walked. I walked A LOT. It’s okay.
Me…walking once again (& taking a selfie, lol) up that God awful hill :)

So this begins my journey to become a Runner. I’m sure I’ll be posting every once in a while about training and trying to keep up with my progress.
I look forward to being able to do my next 5k!
We decided to do a quick trip to Knoxville & Pigeon Forge this weekend. We only did an overnight (Friday) but it was fun. We were joined by our friends (who are more like family), Betsy & Larry. It was a short stay but we still had fun. We rode down Friday morning to pick up some solar panels that we ordered (I plan on doing some posts about that project shortly), went to West Town Mall, ate at The Cheesecake Factory (one of my ALL time faves!) and then went to Dollywood to see the lights. Saturday we stopped by Bass Pro and made our way back home.
All snuggled up ready for his blanket on top of that!
My Sweet Boy is being shy…there’s a first time for everything I suppose!

He watched the whole light show & he loved the ducks in the pond.
I love how they did every branch with lights.
The train even had lights
My favorite Christmas of all!!! This year we were able to celebrate with our Little Man and it was great! I enjoyed waking up with him and the Husband and opening our presents and getting to lounge around all day with each other. It was truly priceless! My family means everything to me. Without them, nothing else matters.

This Sunday my side of the family had their Christmas Celebration. We had a great time and our Little Man had so much fun playing with the family! The food was great, the conversation was great, I just feel so blessed to be able to spend time with them. I know of two families personally this Christmas that just lost loved ones and it really makes me think about how blessed I am to be able to have another Christmas with the people that I love.

This past weekend was the first of 4 Christmas celebrations for our family. We had a lot of fun catching up with relatives that we don’t get to see often.

Mama & Little Man – He is about to get mad…this dinner was during his normal nap time so he was a little cranky which is not normal for him.
He loves his New Balance shoes!
Sunday was spent having a rare lazy day around the house. This hardly ever happens so it was wonderful!
He really enjoyed the light strand!
Little bit of drool haha!
- Love this face!
Little Man and Daddy playing…so sweet!
Monday I woke up feeling like death. The Husband had to go to a conference out of state so my Mama came over and took care of me and my Little Man. I don’t know what I would have done without her! When she first got here I literally had trouble getting out of bed I was so weak. She brought magic with her to cure me (Coca-Cola & Theraflu) and after two doses of each and lying in bed most of the day I’m back to normal. Now I’m just hoping and praying that I’ve cleaned all of whatever got me down out of my house.
My “Miracle Cure” – Coca Cola & Theraflu haha :)
So now I’m just gearing up for our 3 other celebrations. The one I’m most excited about is my Little Man’s first official Christmas at home! He actually shows interest in his presents. I know he doesn’t “get it” yet but I do think he’ll be interested (at least at first) in ripping off some paper.

We are so blessed and so thankful to God for our family!
We were blessed to be able to get together with family, share a great meal and enjoy our time with each other. I am so thankful for my family and I feel so blessed to have these people be a part of my life. God is good!

I’ve toyed with the idea of a blog for a long time now. I’ve had a lot of hesitation because I’m a very private person. I’m always hesitant to put too much out there and I think the biggest reason is just shyness and fear of rejection…and the crazies. Yep. The crazies. Haha. But…I’m growing, pushing my limits and I felt that it would be good to go a little more out of my comfort zone and do a blog. I think that it will be great to have this record to look back on. It will also be a great way to share with family, friends and make new friends.I recently started running and I feel that having a blog and sharing some of that will keep me motivated as well as hold me accountable.
So here goes…
